Achievement of RMISON Students at International Nurses Day 2011 celebrated by KMU.

Khyber Medical University celebrated "International Nurses Day 2011" in Khyber Medical University (KMU) Hayatabad, Peshawar on May 31, 2011.

KMU organized poster and speech competition among different nursing institution of the province. The Students of RMISON secured 1st and 2nd position in Poster Competition. Ms. Jaweria Hakam (2nd year) of RMISON grabbed first position while the 2nd prize came to Ms. Maryum Bibi (2nd Year) of RMISON.

Among various Speech Competitors the 3rd position was secured by Ms. Arjumand Shaheen (3rd year) of RMISON.

The winners were awarded shields and participation certificates for their brilliant performances.

High appreciation was made by Vice Chancellor KMU for RMISON's students and their excellent performance.

International Nurses Day 2011 Event

Rehman Medical Institute School of Nursing (RMISON) International Nurses Day 2011 Event Web Report RMISON Celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12, 2011, at the spacious and well-lit RMI Auditorium. The Theme for IND for 2011 was “Closing the Gap Increasing Access and Equity”. A host of guests from Nursing Schools from all over KPK and other educational institutes graced the occasion. The Chief- Guest of the day was Ms. Mutwahira Shaheen Assistant Director Nursing Board. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shafique-Ur-Rehman, the Dean Under-graduate Studies Dr. Sher Muhammad Khan, the Management and the Administrative Staff RMI, The Principal and faculty RMC, the faculty and staff RMISON, and Doctors and Professors of RMI attended the Function.

Special features for IND were Poster and Speech Competitions. Enthusiastic participants from Post Graduate College of Nursing, LRH School of Nursing, KTH School of Nursing, HMC School of Nursing, Ayub Medical Complex School of Nursing Abottabad, School of Nursing Mardan, expressed their points of view both through Speeches and Posters.

The celebrations started with Recitation form the Holy Quran followed by a Message from the Chairman RMI Dr. Mohammad Rehman. Highlights of the event besides Speeches and Poster-painting were role-play, a comedic event from a Psychiatric Unit that featured the lighter side of suffering and disease. The spontaneous acting of the actors from the host school RMISON, entertained the audience. Another dialogue on IND and the nursing profession received loud applause from the audience.

A poem written specially for IND was sung by an RMISON student. The poem highlighted the complaints of a patient and the reply of a nurse.

Judges for the Speeches and Posters were invited from diverse institutions and the audience and participants applauded their judgment.

As the Competition went RMISON prevailed over other participating Schools. In the Speech Competition the 1st prize went to Maria of KTH SON the 2nd prize went to Arjumand Shaheen of RMISON and 3rd prizes went to and Sidia Pervaiz of RMISON and Noureen Saif of LRH SON respectively. In the Poster Competition Bushra Afsar Ali and Javeria Hakam of RMISON secured 1st and 2nd positions respectively while Margaret of Post Graduate College of Nursing secured 3rd position.

Guests and Principals of the different Schools of Nursing were awarded shields for their outstanding services in the field of nursing. The judges for the event were also awarded shields of appreciation.

Since the International Nurses Day most importantly marks the birthday of Ms. Florence Nightingale, a special cake for the occasion was cut by the Chief-Guest Ms. Mutwahira Shaheen, Mrs. Shafique-Ur-Rehman and the Assistant Director RMISON Ms. Parveen Khan.

The celebrations ended with a renewed hope and prayers for the Nursing Profession. RMISON is Singular in being the only institute that commemorated the birthday of the Founder of Modern Nursing and celebrated the International Nurses Day with spirit and zeal.

WORLD TB DAY AT RMISON

The theme for 2011 World TB Day — "On the move against TB: Transforming the fight towards elimination"— the theme reflects more enthusiastic movement against the global problem of TB.

To mark the significance of the day RMISoN organized a one day seminar on TB on 24 March 2011. Dr. Muhammad Asim a renowned Pulmonologist of the city gave a brief about the Tuberculosis. He highlighted the signs and symptoms of the disease and emphasized on the treatment of TB by properly trained health care professionals.

Other presenters were Ms. Farhana Khan of 2nd Year, Ms. Mehwish Riaz of 3rd Year.

Ms. Sidia Pervaiz of 1st Year. Ms. Farhana Khan of 2nd Year presented a very informative presentation on Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) National Program of TB Control, the presentation gave a brief knowledge of history of TB, she presented that 8 million people get infected in one year from TB only in Pakistan, and significant number of 3 Million people die due to TB every year in Pakistan. To eradicate this Pakistan national TB control program adopted DOTs strategy in 1995. The program achieved 70% detection rate and 85% treatment success rate in the period 2005 to 2010. The program had so far treated 700,000 patients free of cost, which shows the commitment of the government in eradication of this disease.

Ms. Mehwish and Ms. Sidia also gave speeches on the move against the TB and the presenters briefed the audience on the prevention of TB and TB as a curable disease.

On the day, students of RMISoN also performed a role play to intricate the RMISoN and RMI commitment and concern toward the community for the abolition of this menace.

Orientation Program

RMISON has started a comprehensive and interactive orientation program for Rehman Medical Institute’s newly recruited registered nurses. Duration of the program is three weeks. The program has been designed to assist nursing professionals to develop their skills required to deliver and maintain RMI’s high quality patient care. Presentations are being given by the RMISON nursing instructors.
